Restricted Free Agent (RFA) Offer Sheets

Tendering an offer sheet to another team's restricted free agent is permitted. In real life, the team holding the player's rights has the right to match the offer and if they do not match your offer, you will be required to pay compensation as follows:

Contract Value (AAV) Compensation
Less than $1,415,740 No Compensation
$1,415,740 -to- $2,290,457 3rd Round Pick
$2,290,458 -to- $4,580,917 2nd Round Pick
$4,580,918 -to- $6,435,185 1st and 3rd Round Picks
$6,435,186 -to- $8,580,249 1st, 2nd and 3rd Round Picks
$8,580,250 -to- $10,725,313 Two 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd Round Pick
$10,725,314 or greater Four 1st Round Picks

This is a simulation, so all "Offer Sheets" will be accepted as long as you have the required draft picks.

Draft picks used as compensation must be your team's own original picks, and must be from the next year's draft. When multiple of the same type of pick is required, then subsequent draft year(s) will also be used. If your team has traded away some of their picks, you can re-acquire them again via trade, and these picks can then be used for an offer sheet.

What this site is all about

This web site is primarily a place for NHL hockey fans to be Armchair GM's. Fiddle with your team's roster, try different line combinations, make trades, and basically just see what you can do to improve your favourite team's line-up while still keeping it all within the NHL Cap Limit.

Save your roster, or copy and paste it into a forum to show others what moves you'd like your team to make.

The site is designed with multiple blocks of information able to load all within a compact area. This is meant to simplify things, and to give you as much information as possible without having to leave the page.

Give it a try.

Make some moves & see if you can improve your team!

Who am I?

My name is Ian Logie. First and foremost, like you, I am a hockey fan. I'm Canadian - born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and have been a Vancouver Canucks fan my whole life :)

I am a single father, currently living in Denmark with my 2 boys.

Site Inspiration:

This site was inspired by CapGeek.com, which was a great tool for hockey fans. The passing of Matthew Wuest was a terrible loss for the hockey world, and many fans sorelly miss the web site he created. In creating NHLarmchairGM.com, my hope is that it can give many hours of joyful tinkering to the many NHL Armchair GM's out there.

Help / Tips on being an ARMCHAIR GM

  • Select your primary team.
  • Left Click + Drag player pieces to move them. Release the mouse button to drop the player in a new roster spot.
  • Dropping a dragged player onto another occupied spot will cause the 2 players to swap locations.
  • Move players around to try different line combinations.
  • Move a Non Roster player into the line-up.
  • Injured Reserve area for injured players.
  • View player stats for each player.
  • Sign Restricted Free Agent (RFA) Players to a new contract.
  • Offer Sheets are supported!
  • Sign Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) Players.
  • Create a new player:
Unsigned Draft Picks, College/European Free Agents...
  • Move newly signed/created players onto your roster or bench.
  • Shift + Left Click + Drag to clone any piece.
  • Drop excess players / picks in the Trash to delete.
  • See the team's CAP Space after each action.
  • Click on the "Save Roster" button to display your Roster & Cap Situation in a copy friendly style. Highlight the displayed roster/cap info, copy (CTL+C) and paste (CTL+V) into a document, web forum or email to save it or to show your final roster to others.
  • Buyouts are not currently supported (sorry!).

Making Trades

Use the Trade Area at the bottom of the page to try to create some trades that will help your team. Click the "Trade" button to have players/draft picks swap sides (and change color/colour) within that row. Don't like the trade? Swap them back again!

  • Select a team to trade with (Trade Team menu item),
  • View their Roster/Non-Roster players & Draft Picks.
  • Use the Trade Area to make trades.
Trades can include players and draft picks.
  • Retain part of the Cap Hit in any trade.
  • Clone (Shift + Left Clik + Drag) any player to show them in both the trade proposal area as well as place them within either team's roster area.
  • See how any trade affects both team's rosters!
  • Make trades with multiple teams.
  • When finished trading with 1 team, make sure you have moved all of the players that you wish to keep to one of the primary team's areas, or to the trade area. Once you select a new trade team, the original trade team's roster area (and any changes you made to it) will disappear.
  • Use the row of free slots below to place excess players, but keep at least 1 slot free if you plan on signing any free agents!
